Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) invites you to hear Mr Steve Killelea present the Institute for Economics & Peace’s (IEP) latest paper, The Great Fragmentation – The Rise of Middle Powers in a Fractured International Order.
Produced by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), The Great Fragmentation report provides a comprehensive, data-driven analysis of the structural transformation of the international system since the end of the Cold War, highlighting a fundamental broadening of global power characterised by the plateauing of superpower influence and the significant rise of middle power nations. This trend is only likely to continue in the coming decade.
The report examines this shift amid a period of declining global peacefulness and rising geopolitical risk, while multilateral institutions have weakened and trade restrictions and conflict pressures have increased. Within this context, the report explores how the growing influence of middle powers is reshaping trade, diplomacy, and global networks, creating both challenges and opportunities for stability and cooperation in an increasingly multipolar world.
