Emerging Powers Roundtable – European Leadership Network

Mr Steve KiIlelea will lead a roundtable discussion around the emerging powers and The Great Fragmentation paper by the Institute for Economics and Peace.

Produced by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), The Great Fragmentation - The rise of Middle Powers in a fractured international order, provides a comprehensive, data-driven analysis of the structural transformation of the international system since the end of the Cold War, highlighting a fundamental broadening of global power characterised by the plateauing of superpower influence and the significant rise of middle power nations. This trend is only likely to continue in the coming decade.

The report examines this shift amid declining global peacefulness and rising geopolitical risk, while multilateral institutions have weakened and trade restrictions and conflict pressures have increased. Within this context, the report explores how the growing influence of middle powers is reshaping trade, diplomacy, and global networks, creating both challenges and opportunities for stability and cooperation in an increasingly multipolar world.
